Connecting New Migrants Through Volunteering - Hume City Council
2020-2021
Hume City Council engaged Volunteer West as a consultant on the “Connecting New Migrants Through Volunteering” pilot project.
The project aimed to strengthen community organisations cultural competency to support inclusive volunteering best practice. This includes improving the volunteering experiences for new migrants and increasing community organisation understanding to value volunteering as a pathway for new migrants, to build their work experiences and skills that support transition from volunteering to employment.
Volunteer West found three key themes from running workshops and community forums that shaped our recommendations:
Connection
Confidence
Opportunity
Facilitating connections and building confidence with new migrants and community organisations can leverage the opportunities that come from new migrant volunteering.
